What's DTS all about?
What can I expect?

The Surfers DTS lecture phase is over 12 weeks. During this time the surf stream will go out to local beaches either Maungawhai Heads, Waipu Cove, Ocean Beach, and Te Ari Point, out on the East coast of New Zealand. Not all 12 weekends will include surfing, as we have 2 weekends that are set aside as “Free weekends” for the students to go out on their own, and explore some of the country side of New Zealand. There are other activities that the Surf stream will be able to be a part of as surfing is weather dependent and subject to change at any point throughout the DTS.

Wanting to Learn?

We work in partnership with Aotearoa Surf School with their dedicated, qualified and experienced coaches. Surfers will be grouped by abilities and taught beach awareness, understanding the wind and waves, oceans and tides and staying safe at the beach, surfboard design and use, sea entry and correct surfboard handling, catching waves with correct body and hand position, stopping your surfboard, catching waves with paddling technique, learning the pop up to stand, standing surfing position and riding a wave for as long as possible, better paddling techniques for speed and efficiency, getting out past breaking waves, reading waves and understanding different types of waves, what to catch, when to and why, catching the unbroken wave, timing & take offs, frontside / backside turns and riding down the face of the wave and other techniques tailored for each surfer.

What to Bring

Surfboards and wet suits are provided for all students, however if students have personal boards and wet suits we encourage you to bring them.

What people are saying

I would never have imagined all that I discovered about myself and my Creator at Zion. I went to New Zealand to get away from my life, to start-over, and didn’t ever intend to pursue Him, but He met me here. He brought me to a place of humility and uncovered my brokenness. Ever since then He has been gently rebuilding me into the woman that He created and cherishes. Zion was the first place that I met a community of sons and daughters who love their Father and want to change the world for His glory, and because of His love, and I am so stoked to now be a part of that. All I want to do is what my Father created me to do; to know His love, and to allow it to flow out of me like a sweet fragrance that the world will notice, wonder, and want.

I came here to find God and to know Jesus better . I wanted to know what my identity is in God. In Him we are pure. God is a loving father and he has only loving ways for us. We don’t have to be afraid, because God cares about us and He loves us and He wants a relationship with us! To come here was the best decision I ever made.
